About Betws-y-Coed

Betws-y-Coed is the busiest village in Eryri and the easiest to reach, with a railway station on the Conwy Valley line. Head west up the A5 and the valley narrows towards Capel Curig, where the big mountain walks begin.

What's here

The village sits where the Llugwy meets the Conwy, among the forests of Gwydir. Swallow Falls, a couple of miles up the A5, is the best-known waterfall in the area. In the village itself, Pont-y-Pair is the old stone bridge over the rocky river, and Thomas Telford's iron Waterloo Bridge carries the A5 over the Conwy.

Walks from here

Forest paths climb straight out of the village to the lakes above it, including Llyn Elsi. Up the valley, Capel Curig has Moel Siabod and the Llyn Mymbyr loop, and the Tyn-y-Coed Inn has a walk from its door.

With a van

Parking in the village is pay and display and gets busy on bank holidays. Capel Curig is quieter, with more room and a pub that takes vans overnight.
