About Hathersage
Hathersage sits on the River Derwent at the eastern end of the Hope Valley, with Stanage Edge on the skyline to the north.
What's here
Stanage is the best-known gritstone edge in the country, about four miles long, and on a fine day it's lined with climbers. Little John, Robin Hood's right-hand man, is said to be buried in the churchyard. Charlotte Brontë stayed in the village in 1845 and used it in Jane Eyre. The heated outdoor pool is open all year.
Walks from the village
The classic loop climbs past North Lees Hall to Stanage, follows the edge and drops back down to the village. It's a good sunset walk. A flatter option follows the Derwent upstream towards Bamford.
Getting there
Hathersage has a station on the Hope Valley line, and the A6187 runs through the village from Sheffield.
