About Edale
Edale sits at the head of the Vale of Edale between Kinder Scout and the Great Ridge. It's the official start of the Pennine Way.
Walks from the village
Grindsbrook Clough is the direct way up onto Kinder: a scramble up a stream bed in its top half. Jacob's Ladder, a stone staircase past Upper Booth, is the gentler route on and off the plateau. On the other side of the valley, Hollins Cross puts you on the Great Ridge between Mam Tor and Lose Hill.
Getting there
Edale has a station on the Hope Valley line between Manchester and Sheffield, which makes linear walks easy. The road in is narrow from both ends, so take it slowly in a big van.
With a van
There's a pay and display car park near the station. The pubs and campsites in the valley fill up on summer weekends, so book or ask ahead.
